Working up until the date of Georgia Southern University’s International Festival/Global Village, Mr. John Bolton’s 7th grade gifted/accelerated class had been working diligently on constructing their best representation of the country of Iran. Similar to Model U.N., these students researched and compiled information on the demographics, history, and culture of Iran. After spending most of the day before the festival preparing, the students from Mr. Bolton’s homeroom class were ready to show to the onlookers at the festival their knowledge of the country of Iran. All in all, students were informing festival participants of the architecture, food, traditional and modern clothing, symbolism behind the Iranian national flags, the history of the Persian Empire and so much more. Students even exposed festival participants to dances and participants even witnessed the national anthem as it was played by one of Mr. Bolton’s students. All in all, participants left the area well informed and astonished with what they had learned from the students representing Swainsboro Middle School. Before the closing of the festival, the students were thrilled to have received first place for their accomplishments and hard work. In addition to the first place trophy, Mr. John Bolton won the Global Village Teacher Award. This year made the second year in a row that Swainsboro Middle School’s 7th grade gifted/accelerated students won 1st place at Georgia Southern’s International Festival/ Global Village.
