Principal's Message

VALORIE WATKINS
PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents,

I cannot believe we are already into our 3rd nine weeks! Thank you for the support of your child receiving a quality education. As we continue to work together as partners in education, we will see positive results in your child's academic performance. Please continue to work with them on new skills and homework. We are asking parents to make sure your child is reading 15-20 minutes each night. Please remember to ask questions to make sure your child is understanding what he/she is reading. We are focusing on developing “Strong Readers!” Please become familiar with expected Lexile Ranges by the end of the school year.

3rd grade – 520L to 820L

4th grade – 740L to 940L

5th grade -  830L to 1010L

We encourage parents to continue to check the daily communication folders and academic performance on Parent Portal.  Please continue to look for your child’s weekly letter. Also, check our school’s webpage and Facebook page for school events and updates. You are welcome to contact your child's teacher at 478-237-7266, if there are any questions about performance on assignments or assessments.

Promotion - Retention Policy for each grade:

Each third grade student shall pass both reading and mathematics on grade level.  Satisfactory progress will be determined by the yearly averages of 70 or above in each of these two subjects.

No third grade student shall be promoted to the fourth grade if the student does not achieve grade level as defined by “Performance Level 2:  Developing Learner” on the Georgia Milestone Assessment in reading and meets promotion criteria established in this policy.

Each fourth and fifth grade student shall pass both reading and mathematics on grade level plus one of either science or social studies.  Satisfactory progress will be determined by the yearly averages of 70 or above in reading, mathematics, and in science or social studies.

No fifth grade student shall be promoted to the sixth grade if the student does not achieve grade level as defined by “Performance Level 2:  Developing Learner” on the Georgia Milestone Assessment in reading and the Georgia Milestone Assessment in mathematics and meets promotion criteria established in this policy.

Please feel free to contact me at vwatkins@emanuel.k12.ga.us  if you have questions or concerns.
